Jeff –
Exceptional spa-at-home set
This review is for the Oak Essentials The Body Routine set. Yes, it’s pricey, but I think it’s well worth it. These body products have an excellent smell that’s relaxing and makes me want to sit and linger with them. It’s all put together in a gift-ready box that would be perfect as a holiday gift or a birthday present for someone who appreciates natural bath and body products. All of the products are modern, sleek, and in glass bottles with the exception of the shower gel, giving them a luxurious look and feel.If you look at the listing of things that Oak Essentials strives for in their products, it lets you know these are carefully crafted. They are cruelty-free, non-GMO and organic when they can be, eco-conscious, and without a lot of the bad stuff. I feel good about using these and putting these on my body, as compared to some of the no-name brand things out there that come from who knows where. The body balm is excellent. It’s buttery and smooth and it melts into my skin. The scent is medium in intensity and lingers. My skin feels softer, smoother, and more supple after using it.The body lotion is in a pump-style bottle, making it convenient to put on a nightstand and use before bedtime for a soothing ritual. It’s slightly less emollient than the body balm but still amazingly moisturizing and with that same intoxicating woodsy, herbal, slightly sweet smell. The shower gel is the one I liked the least–it’s still great, but I can smell something in the base notes, maybe the base of the gel itself, that’s not as nice as the scent in the rest of the products. It does lather up nicely and wash away without leaving me feeling stripped. The body scrub is nicely scrubby but not too harsh. It has enough oils to leave your skin feeling moisturized but not dripping with oil or greasy. The body oil is lovely to use almost like a body perfume. It has the same scent as the lotion and balm, and layers nicely with them or after the shower gel. It’s not too heavy or oily.As a whole, I loved this kit. I think it’s well worth the cost for luxury bath and body items, and I feel like there was a great level of attention to detail in terms of making these look, feel, and smell high end.

As a whole, elegant and impressive, even though a few items weren’t to my taste.
This is a really pricey spa kit, but each item totally does make you feel like you’re pampering yourself with something luxurious (even the items I wasn’t a *huge* fan of). All of the scents are very herbal and are chock full of flower and other plant extracts if you peruse the ingredient lists. There’s an emphasis on natural ingredients, but Fragrance is still included in each product (usually at the very end), and there are plenty of synthetic-sounding ingredients. The whole kit is packaged up really elegantly. Would be a lovely gift for someone special.Body Lotion — This was my hands-down favorite of the bunch. A single pump doesn’t give you much, but it’s actually all you need for your hands. I LOVE the scent, which, to my nose, almost has hints of cedar (which makes anything a winner in my book). It’s very fresh, and a little peppery. Unfortunately the scent fades away within minutes. Your nose has to be right against your skin to be able to smell it past that. What a shame, because I’d be thrilled to smell like this on a permanent basis. The lotion makes your skin soft and isn’t greasy at all. Very luxurious. I’d consider buying more of this if it’s ever on sale, as a splurge.Body Wash — This smells absolutely delicious and is the most authentic ‘fresh ginger’ scent I’ve ever come across! It lathers very well and seems more concentrated than other body washes. However, the pump is extremely frustrating, as it only dispenses a tiiiiny amount at a time. And it’s one of those pumps that often fails to return itself to the ‘up’ position, requiring you to manually move the pump up and down and up and down etc.. only to get a quarter sized amount for your labor. The amazing scent is worth the annoyance, though.Body Oil — Lovely bottle, and the pump works surprisingly well! The smell is okay — juicy and lemongrass-y, but it ultimately reminds me a little too much of mosquito repellant. The oil itself is nice, and if you use it sparingly, it does absorb without leaving much greasiness. If they had used the same scent as the Body Wash for this oil, I would buy it in a heartbeat.Body Butter — Again, the smell (to me) is a bit too reminiscent of bug repellant to be interesting. I believe it’s the same smell as the Body Oil, but I could be wrong. I’m not a huge fan of the butter itself, either. Instead of leaving my hands feeling soft and smooth, it leaves behind this odd, almost ‘dry’ feeling. It’s not a good sensation for me.Body Scrub — This smelled very similar to the Butter and Oil. I used this on my feet only, with extra scrubbing on my heels. I really don’t notice any improvement in dryness, although I suppose it left behind some kind of thin moisturizing layer, despite my rinsing efforts. I’m a sugar scrub noob, so maybe this is par for course, but I didn’t appreciate how it left behind a somewhat slippery coating on the bottom of my tub. Probably user error on this one.So, bottom line…… If you have a huge budget, and love herbal scented body products, this spa kit would certainly be worth trying out. As a gift, it would definitely impress.
