Exactly what you expect from Sunbeam, simple but good quality.
Great heating pad. It does have a plasticky feeling, which is expected. The cover it comes with is incredibly thin. I highly suggest a fleece replacement cover for comfort (I have 3). This is to replace the exact same Sunbeam heating pad I had for years that eventually bit the dust. The cord is a good length, it reaches from the wall outlet across the bed just fine. It functions well, gets nice and hot. I don’t know about the timer as I never leave it on quite that long.

Heat pad
Good size. Does get pretty hot on high setting so start out at lower setting.

Should not be used unsupervised, runs very hot
This heating pad gets very hot on high. You probably want to use it on medium. It does do a timed cycle and shuts itself off after a while. I wouldn’t trust it with an elderly person with cognitive issues or a small child or baby. It’s fine though for a adult with muscle aches. It stores small, is well made, and hasn’t burnt out in all this time. The cloth cover isn’t very thick and gets very hot. It has a nice weight to it, though. For the price, it’s okay.

Just like I remember from my parents house in the 1970’s
My parents had a heating pad similar to this one in the 1970’s from Sunbeam. I think it lasted 40 years. I’ve been having shoulder and neck pain and wanted a heating pad. Of course I searched for Sunbeam! I know it’s not made here anymore but had to buy this brand due to the brand longevity. It works great and heats up very fast.

Very effective for pain relief for injuries and post-surgery, very large.
I have used this heavily for a hip injury that otherwise would keep me up in pain all night and also for after my laparoscopic abdominal surgery. I have hardly taken any pain meds as a result. My only caution is that there is no timed heat shutoff like most heating pads and so you can damage your skin if you leave it on too long on high with blankets and everything over it. Honestly, I did that many times and only one time was my skin blotchy red and then I stopped doing that and went to TENS unit after the redness went away.I do recommend this for people who can be careful about how long they use it and how high they set it. I would be cautious about using it for children, elderly, or anyone who might need supervision or who might have more fragile skin. It’s not hotter than other heating pads, but it doesn’t turn off by itself and covers a large area.I will say that it does get less hot after a while, and I don’t know why, but occasionally I did wake up with it being too hot, never extremely hot, but I just did the unthinkable and had it under layers of blankets against the cold and that was not advisable. They say doing that with any electric heating pad could start a fire. I will tell you that I’ve accidentally left it on all day and used it all night without any fire issues, but don’t take that for granted. For use during waking hours without piling blankets on so it holds too much heat, I recommend it for people with normal condition skin for warming large areas.I have to also say that it’s great to use if the room is cold and your bed is cold and you just want to be warm. Just make sure you turn it off before you go to sleep. It was a good deal when I bought it.

My review
I got the Sunbeam XL heating pad for back pain, and overall it does the job well. The extra-large size is great because it covers most of my back at once, so I don’t have to keep moving it around. It heats up fairly quickly and stays warm, and I like that you can use it with either dry or moist heat depending on what feels better. The cover is soft and removable, which makes it easy to keep clean. I also appreciate the auto-off feature for safety, though sometimes I wish it could stay on a bit longer. The only downsides are that the pad is a little stiff because of its size, and I’ve seen some people mention it can show error codes after a while, so durability might be hit or miss.Overall, though, it’s comfortable, easy to use, and really helps with sore muscles and back pain.

Love Sunbeam Heating Pads – but pads received are different from discription and a bit dangerous
I love the Sunbeam Heating pads and have been using them for years. I purchased 2 of the king size this time and I’m happy with how it heats but not happy with the cover and the sharpness of the protruding electrical cord connection to the pad. The pad comes out of the cover and then you get the plastic (VERY hot) against your skin. I have gotten scratched by the sharp plastic electrical cord that is just on the outside of the cover. I have had to do a make shift cover for that area so that I don’t get injured. This is on both pads that I received. I also have had to come up with a velcro closure to keep the cover from coming out of the envelope opening. The picture on the product description shows a different type of closure and doesn’t show the electrical stem of the pad protruding out of the cover like the ones that were received. I have attached photos of the cover and how it doesn’t stay put and the sharp area attaching the cord that sticks out of the pad, and the 3rd photo is of the picture on the Amazon site showing the difference in the product cover that is marketed and what was received.

I bought this for when my back pain kicks in, and I can tell you this really helps. It’s a nice and long heating pad, and the three settings of heat differ enough that the hottest setting is barely needed for me. I use it often, and I haven’t found any splitting in the plastic covering since I’ve gotten it and used it. I also really like that it has a shut off at 2 hours after turning it on. It claims that it’s waterproof on the packaging but I haven’t tried that yet and probably won’t, but the fact the cover for it is very durable makes me believe it most likely is.

Turned this heating pad on and it burned through the material!! Good thing we smelled it otherwise it could have burnt my skin or even worse created a fire!!!

Works good but I find that medium isn’t hot enough and high is too hot. I wish there were more temperature settings. Auto shut off is a great safety feature but I wish you could adjust the time for it to shut off. Overall a good product, appears to be well made.
